Contacts use water: Modern soft contact lenses soak up much of the water in your tear film when they are on your eye. When you remove them, that water goes with them, leaving a smaller amount of water remaining than if no contact lenses had been there. This can be very inconvenient if you already have dry eyes, a condition more common in folks over 50.

Dry eye: Your description sounds like dry eye. Initial treatment is frequent artificial tears during the day, ountment at night, warm compresses a few times a day, and omega-3 fatty acid supplements. If no improvement, you should see an eye doctor for further evaluation.

Depends on how dry: It depends on how dry your eyes are. Some people get dry eyes with any contact lenses, while some people never experience dry eyes with their lenses. There is no lens that can be guaranteed not to cause dry eyes. An ophthalmologist will check to see what type of dry eyes you have, and how dry your eyes are, and then recommend the appropriate lens for your unique situation.
