what are some different causes of hypothermia?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Sue Ferranti

Causes...: Hypothermia is when the body temperature is low. Some causes of this include exposure to the elements in a cold climate (ex. Hiking in the winter w/o adequate warm clothing), exposure to cold water (ex. People in the water when a boat capsizes in frigid water). Hypothermia can also be induced by doctors to decrease a person's metabolic rate, thereby increasing survival. Just a few examples!
