One day: Ovulation, release of the egg, is a one time event, once per month. A woman's fertilie period begins several days before ovulation.

Instantaneous. : Ovulation happens as an instantaneous event usually on day 14 of a 28 day cycle. The signs of ovulation start a day or two earlier and continue after ovulation has occurred. When an egg is released it retains its maximum fertilizing potential for about 24 hours after which it dies.

24 to 48 h: After ovulation the egg is around for fertilization for 24-48 h. That's it
Dr. Seth Derman

Not that long: Ovulation is quick process that lasts on a matter of minutes. The egg is fertilizable for about 12 hours. The sperm however can last in the cervical mucus for 2-3 days extending the fertile period out.
Dr. Kimberly Kuncl
Obstetrics and Gynecology 26 years experience
The egg lives @2d: Ovulation is when the egg is released from the ovary. It generally occurs 2 weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period. The egg survives about two days after ovulation unless it is fertilized. This is conception and a subsequent pregnancy.

Yes: You can keep track of basal body temperature, some women have a drop of half a degree at ovulation. It's not a great method, but it's cheap. You can also use an ovulation predictor kit. I don't usually recommend brand name products, but in this case, clear blue easy is reliable and easy to interpret. It measures hormone surges, when you get a smiley face you typically ovulate 24-36 hours later.

Multiple options: First you must figure out if there is any underlying cause for lack of ovulation. Treating thyroid or prolactin abnormalities may reverse the problem. Other options include pills (clomiphene, aromatase inhibitors) and injections of medications. All are commonly used in various different situations.
