Anesthesia: Has several forms, oral, intravenous, inhalation. Many times inhalation & intravenous are combined. Nitrous oxide lowers the mac of other inhalation anesthetics & also compliments many IV anesthetics. Using several agents/meds in combination allows for smaller "safer" doses of each. There are certain contraindications to nitrous oxide, so a full pre-op h&p is important before any anesthesia.
