Ophthalmology 52 years experience
Sometimes: Scleritis which causes redness and pain in and over the whites of the eyes can be confused with conjunctivitis , episcleritis and ordinary trauma. It is visually threatening and needs the attention of an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.
