how long does it take for your immunity to recover after chemo?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Michael Thompson
19 years experience Hematology and Oncology
Depends: Immune recovery after chemotherapy depends on the chemotherapy type, combination, dose/intensity, duration as well as the characteristics of the patient. Some chemotherapies have long lasting immunosuppression such as Fludarabine whereas others wear off faster. Some therapies cause specific immune risks -- eg, Bortezomib and shingles/zoster or Alemtuzumab and cmv.
