Protein requirement: Normal and healthy adults need about half a gram of protein per pound per day or 1 gram per kg body weight. Each gram of protein provides 4 calories—the same as carbohydrates—and protein should make up about 10% to 12% of each day’s calories. As a general rule, there are approximately 22 g of protein in 3 oz of meat, fish, or poultry. An 8-oz glass of milk contains about 8 g of protein.

This is NG: Eat foods that are nutrient dense (like meat, fish, poultry, eggs, cheese, low starch vegatables and water) avoid foods that are not nutrient dense (like starches and sugars, including fruit) nutrient dense foods will increase your basal metabolic rate. On the other hand, starches and sugars impair thyroid metabolism via affects on your liver (which helps activate thyroid hormone).

Depends.: You need to get your resting metabolism rate checked to see what your rate is. This guideline of everyone eating 2000cal has caused tremendous problems. I check resting rates and most women are between 1100-1500calories and in the rest weight range! so customize this to get the right info.

A 19-year-old female asked:

I was told i need to have about 100mg of protein per day. How much is that in grams?

Huh?: 100 mg is 1/10th of a gram. This amount of protein would be entirely inadequate for even a small dog. The recommended daily allowance is somewhere between 40-70 grams per day depending upon weight and activity. You might be a 100 gram/day guy if you are large and very active.
