Good question: In almost every case a virus infecting the nose (rhinovirus) is handled adequately by the immune system (lymphocytes and other immune cells). But your question is good because in a small minority of cases, viruses may alter the surface of various organs and trick the normal immune system into recognizing the alteration as a foreign tissue and attack it. This is known as autoimmunity.
