Not necessarily: Massage can be useful in managing myofascial type pain. It promotes relaxing spastic muscles and may also improve blood flow in the muscle. The latter can further enhance tissue healing if there is injury to the muscle. Adding oil may enhance the experience and decrease rough friction on the skin which may be irritating otherwise. However, it may not directly improve the benefit on its own.
