Acne: Start with a visit with your doctor or a dermatologist who can recommend a complete skin care regimen. If acne is "stubborn", may need prescription strength medications.

A 39-year-old member asked:
Could taking hot baths all the time be the reason for my body acne?

Dr. Sheila Calderon answered

Maybe: Taking hot baths is not good for your skin and if you are burning your skin this physiological stress can trigger acne. Sunburns do this as well. Multiple hot baths can also dry your skin and can make your skin fragile and more susceptable to acne. Use oil free moisturizers and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. If you are taking these hot baths to relieve stres this may be causing acne.

A 19-year-old female asked:
I'm using acretin to my body acne, is there any advices for better results?

Switch to tretinoin: I assume you meant acitretin, which is primarily used for psoriasis, which is very different from acne, so you wouldn't expect it to work well on acne, and it doesn't, in my experience. Tretinoin (accutane and other brands) is the proper retinoid for acne. Make sure the person prescribing it is a member of ipledge and knows how to use it. And be very careful not to get pregnant - with either drug.

A 38-year-old member asked:
What works against terrible body acne?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. Ed Friedlander answered
Pathology 44 years experience
Severe acne: Acne on the trunk that you describe as "terrible" is probably deep cystic acne. You have a right to treatment with isotretinoin. Nothing else will work. If you are a female, be sure to get worked up for an underlying hormonal problem. The medication is powerful and not altogether pleasant, but if the diagnosis is correct you will get a good result.
