Why do the liver cells of people who abuse alcohol and drugs have an increased amount of smooth tissue?

Alcoholic liver : Not sure what you mean by smooth tissue. Generally, early in the disease alcoholics get more fat in their liver, followed shortly by liver inflammation, and eventually by fibrosis or scarring of the liver. At that point the liver appears shrunken. and hard in texture. .Best to try to quit drinking now. Your doctor can provide help. Good luck.
