No: Safety and effectiveness not proven. Many of my own patients have tried without any significant weightloss

Ask your doctor.: There is no proven benefit for Hydroxycitric acid (g. cambogia.) for this in any reputable study. There's also no information on safe dosages in people who have liver or kidney problems, pregnant or nursing women, children. Since it doesn't work, why take a chance. If you are still interested in trying it, check with all your doctors and get their okay first. See http://tinyurl.com/lpzb8d6

Hate to say it: but it seems safe AND effective http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25254061 the problem with the studies, however, is that the control group didn't lose any weight at all and that's just not likely to be real. This works by an entirely benign/safe mechanism of just going through you and sucking up fat on the way. SHOULD NOT produce body sculpting effect. Studies a bit too good to be true.

Uh oh Dr. Wachsman, your link is to a study of a different plant, the prickly pear cactus. Garcinia is the tamarind fruit. Maybe you meant to post on a different question referring to it. I did that myself just yesterday!

Let us know how it works on you. To share my thought on weight loss, I wrote an article in http://www.formefirst.com/Weightloss.html. I've found many of my patients have benefited from following the idea and practice I outlined.
