Normal Variant: Occasionally infants seemingly transition to walking without crawling. In the scheme of development, crawling is not a necessary prerequisite to walking however certain milestones eg. able to achieve standing position & more, indicate necessary motor skills r present to walk. If your baby has had normal growth/development/doctor check-ups, skipping crawl phase can be considered a normal variant.

Crawling is the most: variable gross motor milestone, moreso since infants are now placed on their backs for sleep. More infants with neurodevelopmental disorders skip crawling than typically-developing infants, but it happens in both. Your pediatrician & OT/PT at your state's Early Intervention Program can check muscle tone, strength, reflexes, & pattern of movement. Developmental screens are on firstsigns.org

Yes, it is: OK. Some babies skip crawling and go directly to walking.
Dr. James Ferguson
Pediatrics 46 years experience
NOT A PROBLEM: In tales long past grandma always said if the skip crawling they have learning disabilities. Not true. Certainly there are kids that later have LD, but it was not caused by or revealed in the skipped skill. The neurological factors needed for walking are similar to those used for crawling, and many kids skip without any issues.
