does child's abdomen mri w/contrast need to be rescheduled if he has a mucousy cough? no fever. trying without sedation first but may need sedation.

MRI: If sedation is required, she will be unable to protect her airway. This would be worse if she had a cold. Always be safe. Wait until she is well. All the best. If the MRI is emergent she could be intubated for the procedure.

It depends.: If the cough is frequent, the abdominal motion will degrade the MRI image, possibly rendering it uninterpretable. If the cough is mild and intermittent, it may be possible to successfully perform the scan. Best to call your doctor and describe the situation to determine whether rescheduling may be warranted.
