I have vertical dents growing in thumb nails.two side by side.grows out n comes back never injured.coukd it be melanoma?

Not Necessarily: Damage to the nail matrix can lead to "dents," which could be from several different causes. Melanoma on the nail usually has a discoloration of the nail. I recommend you see a dermatologist for a more definitive answer.

Nail Matrix cause: Any injury or inflammation of the nail matrix (where the nail is formed underneath the proximal nail fold) can cause nail plate changes such as ridges or indentations. A mucous cyst near the proximal nail fold can also cause deformation of the growing nail. Usually melanomas pigmented, and will appear as brown streaks in the nail, known as melanonychia. Some melanomas can be pink. See a doctor.
