i have lower back pain with severe muscle spasms that take my breath away i have md appt in one wk. none of my meds are working. is this serious ?

Muscle spasms: Are very painful. But usually not serious. Good physical therapy should help with the issues. So hang in until your appt

YES: This could be a lumbar spasm,herniated lumbar disc or nerve compression. You need an examination and strong anti inflammatory medication- start Aleve (naproxen) immediately and get to ER or UC clinic

Muscle, not nerve: You appear to have strong lower back muscle spasms, and that pain and spasm can be disabling. You do not, however, appear to have nerve injury or sciatica. Try heat therapy by warm compress, heat pack or warm soaks (you would need help getting into and out of the tub, though). If no better, you may need to make a visit to urgent care or emergency department. Hope that helps.
