Positive urine: Urine cultures are used to evaluate for urinary tract infections. Proper collection of the sample is critical or false positives may result. True UTIs in very young children may be the result of an abnormality in the urinary system, and should be evaluated with an ultrasound a VCUG (checks urine flow and kidneys). Preschoolers can get infected from poor hygiene during potty training.
