is it best to immediately ventilate a person with a severe airway obstruction?

Many factors: Will be considered in determining mechanical ventilatory needs. However, depending on the severity of copd, we try not to unless all else fails. Once a COPD ptn goes on a vent, it is very difficult to wean off.
