Several Ways: Endometriosis can cause scar tissue and that scar tissue can stick to nearby organs, endometriosis itself can spread or nearby tissues can have their surface actually transformed into endometriosis. The exact ways in which endometriosis spreads are still not completely understood.

Many ways: Menses "backwards" thru the fallopian tubes can deposit endometriosis tissue into the pelvic cavity allowing it to grow on different organs. Also endometriosis is thought to spread by way of the blood or lymphatic pathways, in addition to alterations of early embryonic tissue.

RE ASAP: See a reproductive endocrinologist as soon as you can: all else notwithstanding, if you are 42 years old you don't have time to waste. See a specialist; you may not need aggressive treatment but you can't afford the luxury of trial and error that younger women often have. Best of luck!

See a doctor: This is not normal and needs a rapid diagnosis, and treatment based on the diagnosis. You have an inflammatory condition of the colon and this could be infectious or inflammatory bowel disease or other. Do not wait. See somebody asap, and hope you are better soon.
