Sometimes: but the gold standard of testing are pulmonary function tests. If you are concerned about COPD, see your doctor so they can arrange for whatever testing they feel is appropriate. Hope this helps!

Not likely: COPD stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and encompasses the diseases of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Typically when listening with the stethoscope you will hear decreased breath sounds but this is very subjective. The diagnosis is made with history and confirmed with a pulmonary function test that measures decreases in lung function and oxygen-transfer function of the lungs.
