had period at normal time, then again a week later. took pregnancy test, was negative. what could be causing this?

Abnormal: It is certainly abnormal to have periods that close together. Anything that affects your hormones can cause it - infection, antibiotics, stress. If it is a 1-time thing I would not be worried. If you begin having irregular periods all the time, then see your doctor for evaluation
