Rest: thats exactly what you can do. Rest, a good boot, and perhaps a steroid injection will help. Be patient or you may have to have surgery. Make sure an ortho physician is helping you.

Surgery possible: If your impingement has not resolved with conservative (nonsurgical) treatment,i t is likely that you will benefit from surgery. If you have not had a complete orthopedic evaluation, I would recommend it. Injection, physical therapy, bracing stretching, strengthening, ice and heat can help, but if you exhausted these options over the last 5 months, excision of your osteophyte will likely help.
