A 22-year-old female asked:
how many cups of coffee can you safely drink a day?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. Marvin Ott answered
Emergency Medicine 20 years experience
Two to three: The best amount of caffeine to have is about 300 mg or less per day. This equates to about 2-3 cups, depending on how strong they are. Drinking more is not unsafe per se, but you won't get any additional alertness, and the diuretic effects will make you urinate frequently. Hope this helps!

A 19-year-old female asked:
My medication says to take two capsules & up to 3 times a day. So how many am I supposed to consume?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. Robert Kwok answered
Pediatrics 33 years experience
Up to 6 caps. a day: "Take two capsules" usually means taking 2 capsules at the same time. "Up to 3 times a day" usually means that a patient can decide how many times he wants to take the medicine (depending on how much his symptoms are), meaning he can choose to take medicine once a day, twice a day, or thrice a day. In this case, the maximum is 2 capsules each time, 3 times a day, equaling 6 capsules per day.
