GERD: Because you lie down flat and it's easier for acid to go back from your stomach to your esophagus, when you are sitting and standing up, the acid should return to Esophagus against the gravity which is harder, you can elevate your bed 30 degrees, avoid heavy, greasy meal, avoid spicy and acidic food, caffeinated drink, garlic, chocolate and alcohol.

GERD is worse when: lying down. avoid eating 2-3 hours before bed. elevate the head of the bed and/or prop yourself up with pillows. take Tums (calcium carbonate) before going to sleep.
