See or call Doc: Antibiotics can take up to 72 hours (usually) to improve symptoms. If the antibiotic is not effective at that point (no improvement), call the doc who prescribed it. The antibiotic may need to be changed and/or a re-examination may be required with a change or modification in the treatment plan. Certainly, at any point in any treatment, if alarming symptoms occur, See /call doc.

Antibiotics may be prescribed if flu was suspected but not confirmed and/or other symptoms develop after several days that suggest a secondary infection, or a reconsideration of initial diagnosis, especially in light of the lack of improvement. Ask your doctor to explain.his reasoning and what to expect next.
