No known treatment: There is no known treatment for sarcoidosis, a poorly understood inflammatory disease. The steroids are to be used to control the symptoms and the inflammation and they should be tapered as soon as possible.

The precise therapy of Sarcoid is related to which body site (skin/joints/lung/heart/etc) are affected as well as severity. Steroids (prednisone) are often the keystone of therapy but other agents (such as Plaquenil or Methotrexate) are sometimes used to suppress inflammation in concert with steroids to help reduce the need to be on high doses of steroids for prolonged periods.
