PSA: No test "needs" to be done but the recommended testing for prostate cancer includes a digital rectal examination and urinalysis. It also includes a psa test although studies are conflicting as to how important the psa test in screening for prostate cancer.
Dr. Naveen Kella
Urologic Oncology 23 years experience
PSA: Psa is the only test right now for prostate cancer. Soon we will have other tests, such as pca3 and tmprs:erg that may help give even better ideas of prostate cancer risk.
