Be careful!: Having ANY sort of pain in your knees during exercise is indicative of either poor form or damaged joints or both. In other words, you should NOT have any pain in your actual knees while working out. Even just one exercise session with a qualified /certified personal trainer will give you insight as to the cause of your issue, especially if it simply a matter of improper form.

Can be anything: Could be muscles, nerves or even joints causing your pain. If stretching, performing core strengthening exercises and nsaids don't help, i would consider speaking with your doctor regarding more thorough evaluation.
