Prn medications: detox of Suboxone often requires medications for anxiety but not benzos we have other choices and muscle relaxants as also medicine to help you sleep which also we have choices which are no-addicting. Also engagement in a 12 step program, oversight by a addictionologist is of help.

How do Suboxone tapers work?

Slowly: Tapering off suboxone(a combination of 2 potent medicine in and of themselves) is something that should be done slowly; and under the guidance of an addiction medicine specialist. Tapering too quickly has it's own 'side-effects', and the tendency to relapse grows greatly. Best of luck!

No: I am not aware of any long term damage. However, you may still want to consider a very slow taper for practical reasons.

A 25-year-old male asked:
Is Suboxone statistically considered to help please the addict taking it or is it just a poor excuse to make money on as well as enable the user?

It is a great tool.: As a recovering physician who treats addiction, i used to be all about the steps. But opioid dependence kills many young people. Suboxone has unique properties that eliminate the obsession to use opioids, allowing patients on it to feel normal. The best view is to see it as a 'remission agent'. As for money, if it was a great deal for docs, there wouldn't be a shortage of prescribers.

Someone I know shoots up soboxone, or bup and he's addicted to it. How can he get off of it?

Dr. Glen Z. Brooks answered

Suboxone Detox: Suboxone is, perhaps, even more addictive than heroin or prescription pain meds. It also has greater binding to opiate receptors, making "cold turkey" detox so difficult that most patients relapse before completion. Anesthesia assisted rapid opiate detox is a safe alternative to withdrawal that detoxes patients painlessly under deep sedation in hours as opposed to days.

A 45-year-old member asked:
How can I mitigate the symptoms of Suboxone withdrawl!?

Dr. Byron Law-Yone answered

Depends...: Check with your prescribing md. If you are having withdrawal symptoms because you are trying to come off Suboxone you may be weaning yourself off too rapidly in which case you should taper more gradually. Clonidine can help many of the symptoms. Non opioid pain meds.
