See a Dr: Talking to a doctor may reveal some simple reasons for the depression. It is much harder to self-analyze than to sit with a professional who will work with you to find the reasons and the treatments that work.

It happens: People tend to feel better if they take a break from negative thinking, spend a little more time with others, count their blessings, exercise, and do other healthful behaviors. In addition, there are new scientifically-based books on increasing happiness. Taking action will help your depression. If it persists talk to your doctor.

Get Evaluated: If there is concern for depression, get checked out. Depression is treatable and why go through with all the pain. There are many tests available on the net to screen for depression. Take one and if you still are not convinced, see your pcp or see a mental health professional. Many are depressed and either don't know or deny that they are. I wouldn't take the risk.

Impairment: Transient blues are common. They can result in a lack of interest & enjoyment, a tendency to isolate & be less social, etc. Major depression (sometimes called clinical depression) results in significant functional impairment. Jobs, relationships, self-esteem, etc., become severely compromised. Biological symptoms are often involved as well, such as changes in appetite, energy level, sleep, stc.
