Most of time: Diagnosis of most pneumonias is made by chest radiograph. Sometimes symptoms of pneumonia can predate actual consolidation on radiograph by one or two days.

Chest X-ray: A chest X-ray is a useful tool in the diagnosis of pneumonia. However, some studies show that up to 30% of pneumonias are not visualized on chest X-rays. So, you can have pneumonia and a normal looking chest X-ray.
