Non latex condoms: There are non-latex condoms available all over the place. Not as sensitive or as thin as latex condoms but better than nothing. Worth giving a try.

Latex allergy common: Both men & women can be allergic to latex condoms (rash, itching, dryness, even difficulty breathing). Today there are many non-latex condoms readily available. Synthetic (polyurethane trojan supra or polyisoprene durex bare) protect best against STDs but stretch less so may need bigger size. Lambskin (trojan naturalamb) feels more natural, but don't protect from stds, just prevent pregnancy.

Agree with Dr. Quarles. Latex allergy affects about 1% of the U.S. population. For good information go to: http://latexallergyresources.org/ Information from the American Latex Allergy Association.

Which are some symptoms to being allergic to latex condoms?

Dr. Duane Gels

Localized reaction: Symptoms are localized to the site of contact, but can spread outward depending on how sensitive you are and how long the contact lasts. As you might expect, burning, redness, itching and discomfort will continue to get worse with repeat exposure. There is no going back; avoidance is the only long term solution. Plus you might start noticing other exposures to latex begin bothering you.

Usually 2-3 days: from exposure, patients vary in their sensitivities though, but if you feel you are allergic to latex better avoid exposure and seek alternative, an allergist can help, good luck
