Help what??: BV is only one of many things that Metronidazole cures. There are numerous bacteria that you carry in your mouth that are killed by the two medications you list. Undoubtedly, the dentist is trying to prevent infection of the operative area in your mouth because it would be very painful to try and sterilize your mouth - holding it in boiling water for 5 minutes would not be a pleasant experience!

Prevention!: Most doctors prescribe Amoxicillin unless they suspect additional bugs that can not be eradicated with just one antibiotic. Flagy or Metranidazolel is used in dentistry in certain cases. You should ask your doctor for more clarification.
