Reason for taking?: It would depend in part on why you were taking the medication in the first place. It's almost never a good idea to "self wean" or decide to go "cold turkey" on a prescription medication especially an anti-epileptic drug such as Topamax (topiramate) without checking with the prescriber first. In this case, the risk could've been rebound seizures (which don't seem to have happened).

Ask your doctor: This depends on why you are taking it and will depend on your physician's guidance. Your diagnosis like seizures for which it is used, or migraine may also guide your physician's advice.

Could be: Topamax (topiramate) is usually used to treat seizure disorders or migraine headaches. As a rule, you shouldn't stop any medications without notifying your doctor. No matter why topamax (topiramate) was prescribed to you, topamax (topiramate) can cause seizures if you stop it, 'cold turkey'. Call your doctor now and talk about why you want or need to stop topamax (topiramate) and your doctor will let you know how to safely do so.

Awhile: Topamax (topiramate) is an antineuropathic. Primarily a seizure med it will take time for titration to an effective dose. Starting slow and incrementally increasing the dose slowly allows for accommodation to side effects. Look for some relief of symptoms as the dose is optimized.
