Not expected : A patulous eustachian tube means the eustachian tube is open inappropriately. In other words, the valve does not maintain any pressure in the middle ear. Usually, inflammation from a cold or allergies would cause congestion of the eustachian tube and actually improve valve closure and reduce the symptoms of a patulous eustachian tube.
