Genetics: That is a very complicated question. There are so many different factors and variables. My best advice is to seek a referral to a geneticist. There are some very distinguished hospitals, close to Newark. Sorry I could not be more specific.

How must I discuss difficult news like needing a nursing home with my elderly parent?

It is difficult: If possible, i would try and get your siblings (if you have some) as well as other family members involved in the entire process. It is very difficult for parents as well as for the children involved when it comes to needing nursing home placement. Perhaps there is a therapist, like a social worker in your area who can give you some ongoing assistance. Most nursing homes employ such an individual.

Dr. James Ferguson
Pediatrics 46 years experience
Difficult teens: The teen years are not just a problem for parents. Teens go through puberty at differing rates which triggers a lot of "am i normal" thoughts. They become self conscious about weight, clothing, hair, sexuality, money etc as their brain matures & they see the diversity in their friends.Significant anxiety occurs in up to half & many need third party counseling thru the rough spots.

Yes: There is no reason for a child to drink energy drinks. Sports drinks are unnecessary most of the time and typically have too much sugar.

Be very careful: Not recommended to ride bike with history of syncope. One accident could be disasterous. Check with the doctor that diagnosed the syncope.
