Nerve pain: If a nerve is injured from the knife or compressed by the hematoma, then the pain can persist as the nerve regenerates. Sometimes scar tissue (neuroma) forms around the nerve and causes persistent pain. A nerve conduction study can determine the extent of the injury and if the nerve is healing or whether it is severed. See a neurologist or neurosurgeon to evaluate the extent of the injury.
