Cold sores : Herpes simplex is divided into two types: HSV type 1 and HSV type 2. Both of these conditions can affect your mouth or your genitals and can be spread via oral sex. There no cure for HSV infection and often stress is an aggravating factor. Cold sores generally clear up without treatment within 10-14 days. Abreva is an OTC topical remedy used to help speed healing and minimize pain.

Cold sores: At the very first sign of a cold sore(herpes simplex),taking zovirax (acyclovir) by mouth and applying zovirax (acyclovir) ointment may prevent a full blown outbreak. You would have to take a medication like zovirax (acyclovir) daily to see if it would prevent cold sores but I recommend that you discuss this with a dermatologist.
