See psychiatrist: because it is hard if not impossible to diagnose yourself. Many symptoms of schizophrenia are not apparent to the person suffering from schizophrenia. Self-diagnosis may be misleading.

Get evaluated: I would go talk to a psychiatrist or a primary care doctor that you trust about what you are going through. There may be more than one possible explanation. I hope the best for you!

Psychosis and more: Schizophrenia is a mental illness that causes symptoms such as hallucination and false beliefs (delusions). Worst thing about schizophrenia is that even when hallucinations and delusions are resolved, lack of motivation and cognitive problems will remain debilitating. Rehabilitation is needed to address these problems even when psychotic symptoms have been controlled with medication.

Irrelevant : Schizophrenia was historically classified into sub types including paranoid type. This approach proved to have little impact on the clinical care of the concision and was recently abandoned in the 5th edition of the diagnostic and clinical manual. What used to be termed schizophrenia paranoid type is now termed schizophrenia.

Symptoms will worsen: Without treatment, long term suffering is typical. Since it is not possible for the patient to tell the difference between real and hallucinations, value of treatment may not be apparent to the patient, especially at first. Without support of family and friends, treatment tends to be spotty, resulting in extra suffering. Medications are not perfect, but they do help. Talk to the psychiatrist.

Leave that to the dr: Encourage that person to seek out an assessment by a physician. Defer the discussion about discussing specific diagnoses to the physician.
