A 36-year-old female asked:
was on bed rest for 2 months cause of being sick. now my legs feel wobbly a bit and bone in knee is always sore. any idea why bone is sore?

Muscles weak: Deconditioning occurs with prolonged bed rest and multiple studies have demonstrated that and stronger quadriceps muscle reduces the pain. You should start a knee rehabilitation exercise program and if after six or eight weeks you not noticed significant improvement go to a doctor. An exercise bicycle might be a good way to start

Can I give my baby an antiseptic spray for his sore throat?

No: I don't that would be wise. Ingredients in those can cause seizures in high doses, and no one knows how much is safe for a baby; also they can irritate the throat and cause it to close up.

My child has a stomach ache with his chickenpox, can I give them pepto-bismol?

Not recommended: Pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) has a component salycelate that was linled with a devistating disease called reye's syndrome in the 70's & 80's. After physicians stopped recomending salycelate products there was a rapid decline in the frequency of that problem. Discuss your concern with your physician for the best possible comfort meds.

A 34-year-old member asked:
What is treatment for a contusion hair line fracture in your knee cap?
2 doctor answers • 3 doctors weighed in
Orthopedic Surgery 17 years experience
Depends on direction: This depends on the direction of fracture. If the fracture is horizontal, the knee has to be immobilized to prevent possible displacement of the fracture and disruption of the knee extensor mechanism. If the fracture is vertical, you don't have to do much. Just don't do anything that causes pain in the knee and try to prevent any further trauma for about 2-3 months.
