It should not: Although Aspirin can thin the blood, it should not increase the duration of a period. In fact, anti-inflammatory medicines like aspirin, ibuprofen, or Aleve (naproxen) are commonly used to decrease bleeding, as they decrease the inflammatory respons in the uterus, and cause the blood vessels to close off some.

7 days: One Aspirin may have some effect in the body for up to 7 days but at least for one day. In pts with higher risk for bleeding or gastritis or peptic ulcers may be prescribed less often than daily if clinically necessary.

5-12 minutes: A study published in a cardiology (heart) journal found that Aspirin started working (preventing platelets from clumping) after 5 minutes for chewable tablets, and after 12 minutes for tablets swallowed whole. If an adult takes Aspirin for pain or fever, probably more time needs to pass before he notices less pain or lower fever, perhaps 30 minutes.

Anti platelet action: Giving more then 325mg of Aspirin is not recommend in the usa. Aspirin is anti platelets drug that prevents blood clot formation. In mi patients it does that to minimize blood clot within blocked coronary artery. Mostly it is a cholesterol plaque that cracks leading to blood clot formation that further narrows the vessel limiting blood flow to the myocardium.
