Could anyone tell me anything about statins?

Great when indicated: statins have been revolutionary in the treatment of vascular disease; in general the popular press and internet have greatly exaggerated their risk/benefit profile.
for example, if you've had a heart attack, taking a statin will decrease your yearly risk of heart attack by 10% - 1 in 10.
the risk is a 1 in 10,000 chance of severe muscle issues, a 1 in 50,000 chance of severe liver issues
