Not much: Just refers to its position relative to the uterus. This can change and migrate to differnt position during the pregnancy. Not a reason for concern.

A 18-year-old female asked:
My last ultra sound says that I have an "anterior placenta". What does that mean?

Front: Anterior refers to the front of the body. The placenta can implant on any portion of the uterus. Yours just happens to be on the front side. Totally normal. However, occasionally this can make it more difficult to hear baby's heart beat

Right place: Fundal anterior placenta means that the placenta is located on the front wall of the uterus towards to top of the uterus. It indicates that the fertilized egg found the right place in the uterus to implant.

A 19-year-old female asked:
Can me having an anterior placenta be the reason why I'm 28weeks and still only feel little movement sometimes nothing at all ?

Dr. Jeffrey Juchau answered

Anterior Placenta: Yes an anterior placenta can certainly make it harder to feel your baby move at this stage. As your baby grows you should be able to feel movement easier but it will still be less than if your placenta was posterior. Good luck and happiness with your pregnancy.

A 30-year-old female asked:
Can going on a very bumpy road cause a placenta tear if you have anterior placenta?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. John Berryman answered
Obstetrics and Gynecology 54 years experience
Anterior placenta: The pregnancy is well protected in general, and a "bumpy road" will not affect it even with an "anterior placenta". However, if you have vaginal bleeding, see your OB provider immediately, as sometimes a "placenta previa" may be the origin of the bleeding. The stage/date of your pregnancy would be useful information.
