Free fluid in abdom: It is not uncommon to have fluid in the abdomen on ultrasound or advance imaging such as CT scans often referred to by radiologists as 'free fluid'. This can be entirely benign or can be indication of a disease process depending on the symptoms associated. Ruptured ovarian cysts, bleeding from endometriosis, retrograde menstruation, ascites, heart failure, cancer etc can cause fluid in the abdomen
