A 47-year-old member asked:

can you advise me if having random bruises on top of legs?

Could be normal.: Bruising can be a sign of a bleeding problem, but leg bruises only often occur from unremembered trauma, like bumping your thigh against your desk, etc. Bruising is more likely if you are taking Aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs or other medications. If there are other signs of bleeding, like nose bleeds, blood in urine or stool, or unexplained bruises in other places, it is worth evaluation.

Refer to answer: No bruising should occur in any leg, without a cause . The most common cause is injury. If you have bruise on your leg, and is not from an injury, it is a result of medical conditions. Please refer to your physician for further work up.

Possibly: This may well be due to taking nonsteroidal anti inflammatories (such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or anaprox) but may also imply a problem w/your clotting system. Also, some dermatologic conditions (such as erythema nodosum) may appear to be bruises but may be something deeper (not nec serious). A derm visit would be a good move for you.

Clotting issues: Bruising can be result of simple mechanical pressure on the affected area . However easily bruising raises question of coagulation problem. It may involve abnormalities of platelets , clotting factor deficiencies , combination of both like von willibrandt factor deficiency . I think you need to sort out how you get bruised .If it is spontaneous , you need to see your pcp and he might refer you.
