A 23-year-old member asked:
My 3yr old has been acting out more than usual, I am a single mom and feel terrible punishing him all the time. Should I take him to a professionalk?

Dr. Cindy Juster answered

Maybe.: Without knowing the full situation here, including what discipline you've used, and what the acting out consists of, it's hard to say for sure, but it sounds like the relationship between you two isn't what either of you would want. Single parenting is never easy, and working with a therapist on your son's behavior and on how to cope with it and manage it may help turn things around.

Fever: Start with tylenol (acetaminophen) and lukewarm bath to cool him off. If not improving in the next few hours seek care care. If worsening symptoms such as lethargy, stiff neck or rash, seek care immediately.

A 32-year-old female asked:
3yr old swallowed sharp plastic shaped in a "t" about 1" x 1.25".Ped said wait till pass. Any danger symptoms to look for?If doesn't pass, tx options?

Dr. Barry Bergman answered

Probably will pass: Even odd shaped things swallowed will usually pass. The most important thing is that it did not get stuck in the bak of the throat, but he would be coufging or gagging. Plastic won't usually show up on xray but it is important to make sure it passes in his stool. Rarely things can get stuck in the bowel wall, but unlikely. I have seen open safety pins pass, so look in the stool.

Yes: But not really due to the heat but rather the risk of drowning.
