Pain...and work!: Assuming the knee was placed correctly, now it is up to you and the other health care providers to assure the best chance of you being satisfied with the results. You and your md are a team... As is your pt. You need to religiously perform your stretching exercises, attend your pt sessions and let your doc know of any issues quickly since the first few months are critical.

Takes effort: Most patients are hospitalized for 2-3 days for pain medication, antibiotics and physical therapy. Most patients then participate in outpatient physical therapy for 3-6 weeks. Patients will usually continue exercises after that for a few months.

How can you recover from total knee replacement in less than six weeks?

Specializes in Sports Medicine
Varies: Everyone tends to recover at different rates and with varying degrees of pain tolerance. The most important aspects of post surgery rehabilitation are regaining range of motion, controlling swelling, and mobilizing scar tissue. It is very important to seek help from a licensed physical therapist to help with the recovery process as they are experts in this process.
