was diagnosed with orchitis & epididymitis-acute. urinalysis all negative except rbcs at 20 & +1 for protein (also getting over separate virus/fever). are antibiotics absolutely indicated?

Not always.: Orchititis and epididymitis can also be caused by viral etiologies (mumps is one example), and antibiotics would not be indicated in that case.

Orchitis infection: unless you have a viral infection as the cause the antibiotic will help get rid of infection. Should not be harmful to masturbate.
