Loosing fat: Keep things simple, burn more calories then you put into your body. Stay activity and build your activity level up slowly. Do not attempt a "fad" diet or pills that promises localized fat reduction. Fat as we get older does tend to migrate towards our abdomen as well, so maintaining expectations will go a long way as well.

I would encourage: you to work with a personal trainer. The trainer can teach you a variety of exercises with and without machines and ensure that you are doing them correctly. Take care.
