Diabetic Amyotrophy?: With a history of diabetes, especially if severe or uncontrolled, a rare but occasional cause of leg weakness is diabetic amyotrophy. This usually involved one or more nerves in the legs. It is different from peripheral neuropathy since you may experience weakness.
A more likely cause would be a radiculopathy, which is a pinched nerve around the back. Only way to know is a good exam and EMG test.
